Privacy Policy for GeoCam

In short: GeoCam does not run its own servers, does not have user accounts, and never receives your photos, videos or precise location. Your recordings stay on your device. The app does use a small number of third-party services, which are described below.
1. Information the App Uses
Camera and Microphone
- The app uses your camera to record videos and take photos.
- The app uses your microphone to record audio with videos. If you don't grant microphone permission, videos are recorded without sound.
-
Photos and videos are saved
only on your device,
in the
Pictures/GeoCamandMovies/GeoCamfolders. We never upload them or receive copies.
Location
- The app uses your device's precise location (GPS) to print coordinates, altitude, speed and an optional street address onto your photos and videos.
- Location is used only while the app is open and the camera is active . The app does not track your location in the background.
- Address lookup: To turn coordinates into a readable address, such as "Street, Locality, City, District, State PIN, Country", the app sends your current latitude and longitude to an address-lookup service over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
- The address-lookup service is normally LocationIQ , operated by Unwired Labs. If the app has not yet received its settings, it may instead use the public OpenStreetMap Nominatim service.
- No other identifying information about you is attached to the address-lookup request.
- The lookup happens only while the camera is active and your GPS position is accurate, and it is repeated only after you have moved a meaningful distance.
- See the LocationIQ Privacy Policy and the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy .
- The GPS accuracy, for example ±15m, is printed next to the coordinates so anyone viewing a recording can see how precise the reported location was.
- Once you save a recording, the location is part of the image itself. Anyone you share that recording with can see the location printed on it.
Integrity Checks
To help ensure that the time and place on your recordings can be trusted, the app checks on your device whether the location comes from a mock or fake location provider and whether the device clock has been set manually.
If either check fails, recording videos and taking photos are blocked. These results stay on your device and are not sent to us.
Photo and Video Library
The app reads the photos and videos that it created so it can show them in its built-in recordings library. It does not browse or upload anything else in your gallery.
App Settings
Your overlay preferences, such as font, position and which details to show, are stored locally on your device. They are deleted if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
2. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services. Each one may collect information under its own privacy policy.
| Service | Purpose | Data It May Collect |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Shows banner and full-screen ads, which help keep the app free. | Advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, approximate location from IP, and ad interactions. |
| Google Firebase Analytics | Helps us understand how the app is used and improve it. | App-instance ID, device model, OS version, app version, general usage events, and approximate location from IP. |
| Google Firebase Remote Config | Checks whether your app version is still supported and supplies the app's address-lookup settings. | App-instance ID, app version, and device information. |
|
LocationIQ
Unwired Labs |
Converts GPS coordinates into a street address. | The coordinates being looked up and your IP address. |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim | Fallback address lookup, used only if LocationIQ settings have not loaded. | The coordinates being looked up and your IP address. |

OpenStreetMap attribution: Address data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Advertising choices: You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads at any time in your device settings. Depending on your device, this may be available under Settings → Google → Ads or Settings → Privacy → Ads .
3. Permissions
| Permission | Why It Is Needed |
|---|---|
| Camera | Record videos and take photos. |
| Microphone | Record audio with videos (optional). |
| Precise and approximate location | Print location details on recordings. The app asks for precise location because approximate location can sometimes be off by a couple of kilometres. |
| Photos and videos (media access) | Save recordings and show them in the in-app library. |
| Internet and network state | Address lookup, ads, analytics and version checks. |
You can turn permissions off at any time in your device's Settings → Apps → GeoCam → Permissions . Some features won't work without them.
4. Data Sharing and Selling
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not receive, store or share your photos, videos or precise location.
- Information is shared only with the third-party services listed in Section 2, and only for the purposes described there.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Recordings: Recordings stay on your device until you delete them. You can delete them in your gallery or file manager.
- App settings: App settings are deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
- Third-party data: Advertising and analytics data are kept according to each provider's own retention policy.
- You can reset your Advertising ID in your device settings.
- Firebase Analytics data is tied to a random app-instance ID, which is removed when you uninstall the app.
Because we have no accounts and no servers of our own, we hold no personal data about you that we could delete. If you have a request about data held by a third-party service, you can contact us (see Section 9) and we will help where we can.
6. Security
Network requests made by the app use encrypted HTTPS connections. Recordings are stored using Android's standard media storage.
However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and anyone with access to your device may be able to see your recordings.
7. Children's Privacy
GeoCam is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the Effective date at the top of this page.
If the changes are significant, we may also notify you in the app.
